Paper Construction and Model Tests exploring how to represent the nature of the floating weed.

Dye Trials investigating how to dye paper irregularly to demonstrate the non-conformity of each individual plant.

Sketch outlining the composition of the drawing with a background, middle layers and a foreground.

Background: Collaged paper print to create the shadows in the kaleidoscopic water with low relief plants in the background as scenery.

Middle Layers: Distortion of the waterline caused by the bluebottle; key plants at high relief and others at medium; printed acetate  collaged at different levels to display movement of the water.

Foreground: Addition of the bluebottle as the main character.

Building up the Layers

Narrative

A mobile kaleidoscope will always be a tempting attraction for an iridescent bluebottle. The radiant underwater when viewed from the reflective above appeals considerably to the oily sheen in the roving eye of the wayfaring fly alighting upon an alluring stagnant floating weed. Absent-mindedly absorbed by the refined dance of the subterranean underwater world, the bluebottle draws near resolutely determined to experience the interior of this hypnotic jewel.

Yet…pushing…pulling…the transportive waterline only distorts. It is unrelenting, an unpenetrative threshold, unflinchingly dictating that the fly is to remain purely on the surface, on the buffer plant.

Life-giving and regulating, the waterline will not permit visitor access, only the insertion of amphibious organisms and corpse food is allowed…

  1. You need to produce much more work! You have a great idea and a good direction, but you need to start layering up your A2 and creating the details that will form your spaces. Your physical models are convincing but we need to see much more! You need to post tests of your layers by the end of today.
